African Children’s Stories

African Children's Stories making a difference

Ducere Foundation’s African Children’s Stories Program is leading the way in this unique and innovative initiative that aims to one day publish and distribute African Children’s Stories from each and every African nation.

Our African Children’s Stories Collections facilitate the preservation of oral traditions in local communities and provides culturally appropriate reading material for African children.Inspired by visit to a Zambian primary school, Ducere Foundation aims to provide an African alternative in children’s literature. All too often, library shelves and school bags are filled with Western stories that have little to no relevance to the reality of a primary school student in Africa.

Ducere Foundation’s African Children’s Stories Program is leading the way in this unique and innovative initiative that aims to one day publish and distribute African Children’s Stories from each and every African nation. Each collection is filled with stories written by students who are members of their school’s Story Club. These Clubs are a place where creativity and imagination can flourish while engaging with the traditions and tales of their ancestors.

There are more than 45 Collections currently in circulation across Africa, from more than 16 countries, with more than 250,000 books distributed to children – each with its own unique African story to tell.

Your investment in the African Children’s Stories Program from Australia allows us to distribute more of these books across Africa – giving children to strength in their national identity while appreciating cultural differences.
