Ethiopia: Children Stories Collection Launched

Ethiopian children stories published both in Afan Oromo and English language are expected to play significant role in improving students’ reading and writing skill.

The Ministry of Education in collaboration with Ducere Foundation launched the first ever collection of children stories written in local and English language.

The pilot project, which was launched in Bishoftu town yesterday, is aimed at helping children to preserve oral tradition and express their imagination on their own language.

According to Ministry Foreign Relations and Scholarship Head Mitiku Berecha Ethiopian children stories published both in Afan Oromo and English language are expected to play significant role in improving students’ reading and writing skill.

He said that the programme will also play its due role in accessing locally prepared reading materials for teachers and students in primary schools.

Ducere Foundation Executive Director Di Fleming on her part said that the programme is important to preserve oral tradition and the culture of the society.

According to her, the programme will assist in preserving intercultural communication among African children by sharing their stories prepared in English language. The pilot project, which was launched in Bishoftu town yesterday, is aimed at helping children to preserve oral tradition and express their imagination on their own language.
