Our work in Zimbabwe began in 2017 at Chinotimba Primary School, located 30 kilometers away from Livingstone, Zambia, and is in a tourist town called Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. The Head Teacher of the school, Mrs Cynthia Khumalo, is a warm and generous person who has let us work with her school.
The grade seven children of Chinotimba Primary School wrote some amazing African children’s stories and were asked to read them out loud on air, the total number of stories collected and edited was 10.
The children faced the challenge of translating the stories told to them in their local languages to English but with the help of their grade seven teacher Lameck Mpofu, they managed to translate these wonderful stories. The class has about thirty children and half of them participated in the writing process. We will continue working with them so that everyone has an opportunity to write a story that can be published.
This is a brand new concept to them and with time story writing skills will be developed. Everyone at this school is excited to write stories and we will continue to visit and work with their community.
