Our Reach

Since our beginnings in Botswana in 2012, Di Fleming, Executive Director, Ducere Foundation has travelled across 24 African countries, working with children, their teachers and their communities, and …

Our stories, their stories

Ducere is a signatory to the UN Global Compact and so is committed to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4: Quality Education, Goal 5: Gender Equality, Goal 10: Reduced Inequality and Goal 17: Partnerships to Achieve the Goal.

Central to our teacher training model is our critical resource, The Ducere Foundation African Children’s Stories Program: A Guide to Story Writing and Storytelling. The teacher’s guide discusses the nature of story, the cultural role story plays in enhancing teaching, learning and understanding, and how to engage in group work to build shared stories.

As the Foundation explores new opportunities within each African country, partnerships are developed and relationships built, and the prospect to improve literacy through stories is expanded. Our partners have been part of the lifeblood of our children’s success, with nearly 22,000 stories submitted, over 1000 authors selected, and 60 collections published from 22 African countries.

Partnership remains central to our success, as without collaboration with government departments, the Australian Embassies and High Commissions, and numerous non-government organisations, Ducere Foundation would require an army of staff to deliver its vision.

The old African Proverb 'If you want to go fast go alone, if you want to go far go together' has become our mantra.
